A favorite: Human Behavior

I’m curious about human behavior. This is an area to study and still on my wish list.

So many things we do and don’t even realize it.

During a good conversation two weeks ago, a person said to me something that I heard before in other ways: “we fall in love with the person who gives us what we need at that point in time”.

She also included: “this is work related and I was really surprised when I heard that from a coach”.

I clearly understand that, and I remember my boss saying “it is only natural that we meet people, and fall in love with them, while working. Afterall, we spent more than a third of our time at work”.

Well, that confirms a bit of the earlier point.

The conversation continued and I asked her: why, 100% of the time, when I talk about finding a mental challenge (aka: time when I considering going back to work for someone else), no exceptions, do people tried to dissuade me from my idea?

Her answer: “work is a very competitive world, they don’t want you there, even when you are not competing directly with them.”.

That got me thinking.

I didn’t feel anyone afraid of competition. I felt they all had good intentions: “you are doing such a beautiful work with your art”, “you have freedom now”, “you can choose what you want to do and when”.

I paused and laughed thinking about what we say in Brazil: “hell is full of good intentions”.

It is fascinating!

I have so many questions. My curiosity has grown exponentially.

One of my recurrent thoughts: Companies should have a “board of curious”. A group of people, with very different experiences, that would be observing strategic meetings, long range plans, board meetings, quarterly reviews, just to ask random questions, to bring something different to the table. How cool this could be? Can you imagine how many problems could be solved?

Well, in full disclosure: this is a dream job for me!

Now, back to my initial question, I am still curious.

If you have an answer, or an opinion, I would love to hear your thoughts.
