Sabbatical x Motherhood
I got one of these videos showing how women struggle going back to work after raising their children. And it might be worst if they had a solid career.
I remember thinking how amazing would be to take a sabbatical and how cool that some companies offer that.
I spoke with women who were embarrassed during their interviews, some who had good stories and, very few said they were proud.
Here I am asking a question: What is the difference between taking time to dedicate to your biggest creation (your kids) versus taking a sabbatical?
Here is the thing: I am a mother of two. I didn’t interrupt my career to take care of them longer than my maternity leave but I can tell you how much I learn raising them.
Breaking news: babies don’t come with manuals. We learn as we go.
We become masters in managing multiple appointments, supply chain (aka groceries, school snacks, medication schedules), conflict resolution, development plans.
Things that, many times, we don’t get trained at work.
Next time you see someone (not only women) coming back to the work force, give them a chance.
Their “sabbatical” might have been the opportunity to bring the skills your company has been missing.
